About the Artist

Jan Rozene
-Art engaged with nature-
JAN ROZENE
A native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Jan Rozene lived in the Hudson Valley for 30 years. In 2026, she moved to Manhattan. She draws on the subway and in museums and paints plein air in the country and city. A student of Frank Mason at the Art Students League and in Stowe Vermont in the 1980s, she also received masters degrees from Columbia University and Hunter College in library science and art history. She worked as an art librarian at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City from 1981 to 2020.
Jan enjoys sketching with the Central Park Meetup and the Urban Sketchers NYC. Many of her recent pieces have been painted with watercolors and white gouache on site. In the studio, she enjoys egg tempera and oils.
Jan hopes to have the viewer share the emotional high she achieves when lost in the deep concentration of painting. Like a runner's high, it is a function of her intense meditation and engagement with nature.
